The 1991 Masseto, from a cold, rainy year, is still fresh and intact. This is a small-scaled, floral Masseto that has held up beautifully, although it is fully mature. Anticipated maturity: 2011.

A gem exploding with fruit. This has blackberry, tobacco and chocolate flavors. Full body, fine tannins and a long, fruity finish. Better after 1997

Masseto
Masseto is without a question, recognized as one of Italy's most iconic wines. A unique vineyard of just 7-hectares, planted upon soil rich in Pliocene clays, blessed with a mild Mediterranean climate and gentle sea breezes: this is the birthplace of Masseto. Set on a gently sloping hill, the vineyard is divided into three sections, which contain different clay-based soil types. The distinct variances between soil, climate, terrain, and tradition make up Masseto’s magnificent terroir. This is nurtured by a passionate and dedicated team which approaches each step of the harvesting and vinification meticulously. In the search of excellence, all of these components come together producing a unique wine, with impressive complexity and sublime elegance.
