With great fruit on the attack and mid-palate, a medium to full-bodied, multidimensional mouthfeel and a skyscraper-like finish, this prodigious effort over-delivers, even for this phenomenal terroir. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 40-50 years.

55 % Cabernet Franc, 45 % Merlot. Süsses, kompaktes Bouquet, viel Amarenanoten und Waldbeeren, fett unterlegt mit feinen Gewürzen und auch Frischespuren von Orangeat und Zitronenmelisse, noble Hölzer und Caramelnuancen, zeigt schon viel des möglichen Aromendrucks in der Nase. Harmonischer Gaumen, viel Druck aufbauend, extrem konzentrierte blau- bis schwarzbeerige Fruchtnoten, eine wahre Essenz was da auf der Zunge nach dem Spucken zurück bleibt und minutenlang nachklingt. Gehört zu den ganz grossen Ausone-Jahrgängen und erinnert stark an den genialen 1998er. Unsterblicher Klassiker und schon fast monumental. (19/20). 12: Unglaublich dunkel, satte Mitte, irgendwie gar noch etwas violette Reflexe zeigend. Mehr florale Noten wie Frucht im Moment, Brombeerentouch, schwarze Pflaumen und Black Currant, wirkt frisch, präsent, vielleicht etwas cool aber ganz sicher nicht unreif, weil er eine sehr ansprechende Tiefe zeigt, aus welcher man in dessen Reife auf schwarze Sommertrüffel hoffen darf. Im Gaumen noch dezent kernig mit viel Rasse und Rückgrat, wie schon bei der Fassprobe ist dieser Ausone dem eigenen 1998er nicht unähnlich. Auf sehr, gutem Weg in Richtung seines überirdischen 1998ers.

This wine has a superb finish with loads of raspberry and cherry with super fine tannins. It is really silky textured. It’s full and balanced long finish. Fresh, very clean and precise. Leave it for six to seven years. Fabulous for the vintage.
