61.5 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 % Merlot, 3 % Petit Verdot, 0.5 % Cabernet Franc. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Geniales, barockes, recht warmes Cabernetbouquet, etwas Kaffee und dunkle Edelhölzer, zeigt eine erstaunliche Tiefe an. Im Gaumen fest, viel Fleisch am Knochen, schwarzes Pfeffermehl, Lakritze und Schokobitterkeit im leicht extrahiert wirkenden Extrakt. Zeigt viel Charakter und aber auch eine etwas bourgeoise, harte, respektive verlangende Seite. Die Zukunft wird es wohl richten. warten (2022 - 2043)

The 2011 Les Forts de Latour has a very refined bouquet, understated at first but gaining intensity in the glass with an attractive estuarine tincture developing and complementing the black fruit. Later on, there is a trademark touch of Pauillac mintiness coupled with black olives. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannin and very good weight in the mouth, the fruit profile leaning more towards the red side of the spectrum than black. This feels lithe and supple in the mouth, fleshy and generous with a smooth finish that slips down the throat. Enjoy this now and over the next 15-20 years. Tasted March 2017.

The 2011 Les Forts de Latour has a high-toned bouquet with black cherries, cedar, pencil lead and a touch of blood orange, like the 2011 Le Petit Mouton, gaining more composure with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grainy tannins, well judged acidity anda little compact on the finish, but it will appeal to those looking for "classic Bordeaux". Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

A tightly coiled version, with a strong iron base that keeps the core of plum, black currant and bitter cherry pinned down for now. A bolt of graphite courses through the finish. This is very solid, showing some serious cut. Best from 2016 through 2026. 12,500 cases made. –JM

Château Latour
Château Latour is in a unique class of its own, producing some of the most powerful, complex and irresistible wines in Bordeaux. For centuries, Latour has been the greatest First Growth in the Médoc, if not in the entire region, producing the world’s most remarkable reds year after year. Considered the oldest wine producing property in Pauillac, with a history dating back to the 14th century, owners have come and gone over the years leading to 1993, when François Pinault, a French billionaire industrialist bought up the château. Since then, while maintaining Latour’s pursuit for excellence, Pinault has made significant changes, including a complete renovation of the winery, vat room, winemaking facilities and storage areas. He has also built a new tasting room, and redesigned the architecture of the main building, Pinault’s strides for modernization continue to accrue. Today, Château Latour’s talented team, motivated by their quest for perfection in both the vineyard and cellar, craft three wines. Preferring to release their wines after they are bottled, Latour was the first Bordeaux château to withdraw from the En Primeur system, starting with the 2012 vintage. One of the three wines in production, Le Pauillac de Château Latour is a worthy third wine. While Les Forts de Latour is a very impressive second wine. Le Grand Vin is at the pinnacle of Latour’s production, as the Grand Vin, it is a regal, concentrated red that is harmoniously balanced by its sophisticated refinement.
