Slightly rustic, but featuring loads of chocolate and berry and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with minty, floral and cherry flavors and a velvety texture. Loads of mouthpuckering tannins. Needs time. Blockbuster for Beychevelle.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2008. ?JS

90: Fassprobe (15/20): Dichte Nase, füllig und recht komplex (Himbeeren). Im Gaumen Bestätigung von Himbeeren. Gut ausgewogen. Feiner, eleganter Wein. Auch an der Arrivage mit gleicher Wertung: Offene Nase, gebranntes Zuckerrohr, Caramel, Butter, Zedern, Korinthen, überreifes Traubengut zeigend. Der Rauchtoastgeschmack dominiert Nase und Gaumen. Dürfte mehr Konzentration haben. Mittelmass! 95: Neben dem mageren 88er machte er fast richtig Spass. Jetzt in der Genussphase. 16/20 vorbei

Both the 1989 and 1990 wines scored slightly lower than in previous tastings. In contrast to the 1990, the 1989 Beychevelle, which usually performs better than it did in the recent tasting, is an elegant, medium-bodied wine with soft tannin, copious quantities of ripe, herb-tinged, blackcurrant fruit, some evidence of toasty oak, and a generous, velvety-textured finish. It appears to be evolving quickly, and can be drunk now as well as over the next 15 years.

Château Beychevelle
Located in the Saint-Julien region of Bordeaux, this Classed Growth, Château Beychevelle has one of the most recognizable labels in all of Médoc. Featuring an estuary boat, the labels show a sail lowered in salute to the estates former owner, the Duc d’Epernon, an Admiral of France. Better known as the “Dragon Boat” wine, it has become one of the most sought after wines around the world, especially in China. Now a sizable 90-hectare property, its vineyards are dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Petit Verdot growth. More recently, they have heavily invested into the renovation of their wine making facilities, cellars, and visitor center. Today the beautiful winery, designed by Arnaud Boulain and Atelier BPM stands with glass walls allowing guests to fully partake in the winemaking process.
