Tasted blind as a vintage comparison at the Valandraud vertical, the 2006 Troplong-Mondot is deep in color with minimal ageing on the rim. The bouquet is rich and generous with mulberry, Hoi Sin, orange blossom and melted tar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, generous black pepper and graphite notes cutting through the dense black fruit, leading to an engaging, tensile, graphite and tobacco-driven finish that exerts both body and length. It still has that slight stockiness, but that is something I like. I have always found much to admire in this vintage of Troplong-Mondot and it continues to give so much pleasure. Tasted December 2016.
Sattes, sehr dunkles Purpur mit violettem Schimmer. Wuchtiges Kirschenbouquet, Maulbeeren, Kokos-Bounty, Cassis, berauschend süss.

Coffee, cedar, blackberry and tobacco aromas follow through to a tight, powerful palate. This is full yet very reserved, with silky, polished tannins. Best after 2014. 5,330 cases made. ?JS
Château Troplong Mondot
A ceaseless luminary in Saint-Émilion over the past couple decades, Château Troplong-Mondot continues to validate its relatively new Premier Grand Cru Classé status vintage after vintage. In the northeast of the appellation, there are 33-hectares of vines well-sited along the hills of Mondot, the bulk of which remains Merlot is perfectly reflected in the wine as full, rich, plump and fleshy details. Since the 1980s, Christine Valette and her husband, Xavier Pariente have put in tremendous efforts to better the viticultural and vinification methods used. The fruit is now hand-harvested with meticulous sorting rituals, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before the wine is aged in new French oak barriques for 18 months. The results are self-evident, the impressive Grand Vin, Troplong-Mondot is a corpulent but refined Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc Saint-Émilion blend.
