Freshness and richness combined, with a distinct salted-peanut edge to the apricot, pear, biscuit, hazelnut and crumble character. Medium-bodied with a creamy and mouth-filling mousse. Balance of elegance and density. 100% pinot noir from 80% Verzenay and 20% Les Riceys. 2016 base, with 20% reserve from 2015. Disgorged 2021. 6g/L dosage. Drink now or hold.

This NV Princes Brut Blanc de Noirs is 100% Pinot Noir and is entirely based on the 2012 vintage (80% from Verzenay and 20% from Les Riceys). Disgorged in July 2017 with a dosage of six grams per liter, this bottling opens with an intense but fine bouquet of red fruits and some ethereal notes like fir needles and juniper. On the palate, this is a mouthful of round, fresh and delicate Champagne! It is seriously structured yet very finessed, lithe, elegant and persistently aromatic, with lovely cherry and black currant flavors in the finish. Just gorgeous! Tasted November 2017.<br/>Champagne de Venoge's finest wines come along in carafe-shaped bottles that one might call kitsch, but I like them. They don't fit in my fridge door, but my fridge is big and the Champagne's good enough to deserve its own shelf and an upright position. The prestige cuvées Louis XV and Louis d'Or are remarkably elegant and vinous sparkling wines with structure, great complexity and also finesse. The 2006 Brut Rosé is one of the finest you can get, and the 1995 Louis XV is a greatly matured and generous Champagne that is still terribly fresh even though it was disgorged more than ten years ago in 2006. Cellar master Isabelle Tellier is doing a great job; there is not a single disappointing wine in the current portfolio that starts with the easy-drinking Cordon Bleu and offers some sophisticated cuvées in the Princes range. Champage de Venoge is—despite its glorious but volatile history (in terms of frequent changes of ownership)—still an underrated rising star in the Champagne region. Champagne de Venoge is now owned by Lanson-BCC.

A fine aperitif, with a creamy mousse and vibrant acidity, this shows notes of green plum, lemon meringue pie, currant, smoky mineral and anise. Features a fresh, focused finish. Drink now through 2016. 2,000 cases made.  –AN
