It’s deeply textural yet youthfully dense, as it first cools the palate with lavender and ripe dark red fruits; yet beneath is a layer of grippy tannins that close the wine down. Notes of licorice, black tea and purple florals linger on the youthfully chewy finale. The 2016 is just a baby today, and it will need a number of years to come fully into focus - but it will be worth the wait.

Mit seinen über 80 Hektar, zieht sich das Altesino-Anwesen die östlichen Hügel von Montalcino in Mittelitalien entlang. Der noble Palazzo Altesi aus dem 14. Jahrhundert ist Sitz der Altesino-Kellerei. Dieses Weingut war mit seiner Innovationskraft stets ein Trendsetter in der Region. So veranlasste Altesino die Einführung der Cru-Klassifikation, die für Lagenweine aus einem einzelnen Spitzenweinberg vergeben wird. Außerdem setzte er sich für das Konzept von Terminkontrakten in Brunello ein, einer französischen Praxis, wonach Weine vor dem Zeitpunkt ihrer Abfüllung gekauft werden. Altesino war 1979 auch einer der ersten italienischen Hersteller, die französische Barriques für den Ausbau verwendeten, und 1977 einer der Vorreiter für die Produktion von Grappa di Brunello.
