This is extraordinary. There has never been a wine like this here since the famous 1990 or underrated 1989. Violets, flowers, stones and limestone. Oyster-shell undertones. Full-bodied, muscular and so structured. A phenomenal wine that reminds me of the great Bordeaux of the 1950s. Try in 2026.

Offers lovely richness, with a very caressing feel to the layers of warm plum compote and boysenberry confiture. Underneath all the fruit is a very fine-edged chalky thread, yet the feeling overall is velvety and lush. A beauty.—J.M.

The 2015 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) is a blend of 90% Merlot picked between 25 September and 5 October, 10% Cabernet Franc picked on 5 and 12 October. It was cropped at 34 hl/ha. It has a very intense, quite opulent bouquet, just like the 2015 Pavie-Macquin from barrel, with fig-tinged red cherry fruit, hints of kirsch and glycerin. The palate likewise shows more refinement and class, the tannins fine and the acidity well judged. It has a fresh finish, though it just needs to muster a touch more tension and sense of energy right on the finish. Let's see what happens during its élevage, because it has the materials to turn into a very fine Saint Emilion

90 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet Franc. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Intensives, zu Beginn leicht alkoholisch wirkendes Bouquet, dropsige Noten, Waldbeeren, ein Hauch von Überreife und Malzkonturen. Im Gaumen erinnert der Grundgeschmack etwas an einen Prioratwein, aussen überreif, innen noch kernig. Für mich ist er zu streng zu wenig Burgundisch ausgefallen. 17/20 2024 – 2042

Château Beauséjour
The year of 1985 was a major turning point for this south Saint-Émilion estate, when Château Beauséjour elevated their level of quality becoming one of the more impressive producers amongst the Premier Grands Crus Classés. Following the property’s impressive turnaround, accomplished technical engineer, Pierre Bernault bought Château Beauséjour in 2004 – chasing his love of the wine world. With 12-hectares out of their overall 15 dedicated to Merlot and Cabernet Franc production, the Bernault family has continued to better their name as one of the greatest wine producers in Montagne Saint-Émilion. Consultants like, Stéphane Derenencourt, Michel Rolland and Nicolas Thienpont have only further influenced the château’s classical style, with notable medium to full body, opulence of black fruits and firm tannins that provides structure during cellaring time.
