A lean, tightly wound red, offering black cherry, black currant, wild herb and mineral aromas and flavors. Harmonious and concentrated, with a long, fresh finish that echoes fruit and mineral details. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2017 through 2024. 28,000 cases made.
89 Robert Parker
Wine Advocate: The 2014 Guidalberto is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, although the percentage of Merlot was reduced slightly in this vintage from 40% to 30%. Cabernet Sauvignon fared well during this difficult growing season, thanks to the advanced age of the vines and the hillside positioning of the vineyards. The Merlot was more problematic. This wine is the result of extreme fruit selection, nonetheless. Guidalberto is a medium-bodied red wine with a soft approach and bright berry flavors. Drinking window: 2016-2024.<br/>Reviewed by Monica Larner.
Producer
Tenuta San Guido
Italy’s most iconic wine estate, Tenuta San Guido, has grown even more into their reputation following a recent string of great vintages of the country’s most celebrated wine, Sassicaia. Established in the 1940s, the winery did not present its first commercial release until 1968. By 1985, Robert Parker reaffirmed their reputation, giving the 1985 Sassicaia a perfect score and ultimately putting the estate on the worldwide wine map. The single estate in 1994 became the first ever to receive their own DOC, Bolgheri Sassicaia. Distinction holds true in their production, from their second label, Guidalberto, to their third wine, Le Difese, each wine is unique and impressive in its own way.
