A deep well of black currant, blackberry, licorice, cedar and graphite flavors draws you in for the ripe fruit on the palate. There is good grip, with fine overall balance and a long aftertaste of black currant, mineral and tobacco. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2024.—B.S.

The 2015 Bolgheri Rosso Poggio ai Ginepri is a generous, accessible and well-endowed red blend (with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot). The bouquet is thickly layered and rich with black fruit, spice, leather and cured tobacco. You can't go wrong with this Bolgheri base wine, especially if you are contemplating a pairing with grilled meats or roasted lamb. This is a mid-weight effort with moderate length and a point of spicy acidity on the close.<br/>
Producer
Tenuta Argentiera
From the plains to the Tuscan hills, Tenuta Argentiera stretches across the Alta Maremma coast located about 100-kilometers south-west of Italy’s beloved city, Florence. Founded originally in 1999, through a partnership with neighboring estate owner, Antinori, the property is now under sole-ownership of the Fratini brothers, Corrado and Marcello. Seventy-five of the estate’s 500-hectares are planted to typical Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Straddling the DOC Bolgheri and IGT Toscana appellations, the tenuta’s first vintage was released in 2003. Today, their wines continue to characteristically mirror Argentiera’s special piece of Maremma terroir. The DOC Bolgheri Superiore flagship, Argentiera is a rich red blend made from the property’s most tended to grapes, with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon backbone the wine is ripe and silky. They also produce two other Bolgheri DOCs, Villa Donaratico and Poggio ai Ginepri, as well as an impressive pure Merlot, Bartholomäus.
