Rich and draped with black cherry, blackberry, plum and sweet spice flavors, this is fresh and well-structured, with all the components in the right place. Ends with a long, fruit- and spice-filled aftertaste. Best from 2017 through 2025. 10,000 cases made. –BS

The 2013 Bolgheri Poggio ai Ginepri is a delicious base wine with loads of fruit flavor and good intensity. The bouquet opens to dark cherry and pressed blackberry with lingering tones of spice and dark chocolate. In the mouth, the wine shows bold ripeness with soft tannins and sweet endnotes of dark fruit and plum. Tenuta Argentiera has been on a slow and steady quality trajectory over these last years.
Producer
Tenuta Argentiera
From the plains to the Tuscan hills, Tenuta Argentiera stretches across the Alta Maremma coast located about 100-kilometers south-west of Italy’s beloved city, Florence. Founded originally in 1999, through a partnership with neighboring estate owner, Antinori, the property is now under sole-ownership of the Fratini brothers, Corrado and Marcello. Seventy-five of the estate’s 500-hectares are planted to typical Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Straddling the DOC Bolgheri and IGT Toscana appellations, the tenuta’s first vintage was released in 2003. Today, their wines continue to characteristically mirror Argentiera’s special piece of Maremma terroir. The DOC Bolgheri Superiore flagship, Argentiera is a rich red blend made from the property’s most tended to grapes, with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon backbone the wine is ripe and silky. They also produce two other Bolgheri DOCs, Villa Donaratico and Poggio ai Ginepri, as well as an impressive pure Merlot, Bartholomäus.
