98 Robert Parker
This is a wine I have jealously followed since its birth. The Luciano Sandrone 2016 Barolo Vite Talin is another superstar. This is a complete wine, with depth, intensity and a fully generous and embracing personality. It's like a warm hug. The tannins are tight and the wine needs more time to fully soften. At this young point in its life, it offers plenty of dark primary fruit, spice and black licorice.
98 Vinous
The 2016 Barolo Vite Talin is a stunning wine, just as it always has been. Over the least few years, the 2016 has gained a measure of classicism it did not show as a young wine. The purity of the flavors, the wine's balance, its pedigree, well, they are all off the charts. The Vite Talin emerges from two parcels with heavily virused vines that naturally produce a minuscule crop. It spent two years in 500-liter tonneaux and a year in cask.
97 Wine Spectator
A bright, well-defined red, featuring red and black cherry, black currant, eucalyptus and mineral aromas and flavors. This is supported by a matrix of dense yet refined tannins, which yield to the ripe fruit in the end. Feels almost weightless, yet packs plenty of flavors and structure. Best from 2025 through 2047. 208 cases made, 25 cases imported.
Producer
Sandrone Luciano Azienda Agricola
No grower-producer has achieved such an impressive balance between modern and traditional approaches as the Luciano Sandrone winery has. The estate is extremely successful in producing wines that are not only soft, supple and approachable young, but wines that are capable of aging beautifully. Located just outside the town of Castiglione Falletto, the Sandrone family began producing wine in 1978. From their 27 hectares (of which 75% are owned), they are dedicated to the production of Nebbiolo from the Barolo and Roero regions. In fact, it was their Barolo Cannubi Boschis bottling that first grabbed the attention of the media in the late 1980s. Produced in limited quantities, the 1989 and 1990 vintages received 97 and 100 points, respectively, from Robert Parker. As this was the first perfect score for a Barolo, all eyes were drawn to Sandrone. Luciano’s brother, Luca, a university trained oenologist, joined the domaine in 1992 and is now in charge of all vineyard management. The Sandrone vision stands true today, with each of their wines reflecting not only the cultural history and traditions of the region, but also the finest modern technologies.
