Domaine Emmanuel Rouget
The wines of Emmanuel Rouget are some of Burgundy’s best kept secrets. In fact, Rouget is the nephew of the late Henri Jayer, who is still considered the region’s greatest winemaker in recent history. Following Jayer’s retirement in 1996, the estate was passed down to Rouget, who worked closely with his uncle for 10 years before his passing. Found in Falgey-Echézeaux, the domaine’s holdings are predominantly found in the appellations of Vosne-Romanée, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru and Echeazeaux Grand Cru; but also in Côtes de Nuits‐Villages, Savignyles‐lès-Beaune, and Nuits‐Saint‐Georges. Today, Rouget continues to honor Jayer’s classical style, through low yields, a pre-fermentation with cold maceration and maturation of the best wines in 100% new oak. This minimal intervention technique in the cellar, allows the Pinot Noir wines to age slowly in oak barriques for a year and a half before unfiltered bottling. Rouget’s wines have now gained elite status among collectors, these highly sought-after wines are deep, luscious and immaculately made.
