The Grands-Echezeaux offers spicy wild berry aromas intermingled with smoky oak and a concentrated, oily-textured, medium-to-full bodied inner core with an intense depth of floral, dark cherry-packed fruit. Drink this gem from 2002-2008. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided.
Drc wines are not subjected to any filtration or fining and undergo only one racking.

Opulent, its fat yet elegant texture coats the palate. Appealing for all that sweet oak, it tastes of plum, black cherry and cassis, with mocha and freshly ground coffee beans added in. Full-bodied, supple-textured, with refined tannins. Tempting now, but cellar. Best after 2005. –PM
