18 Rene Gabriel
18/20 2024 – 2040

Offers a juicy feel, with lots of singed anise and fruitcake notes out in front of the dark plum and blackberry fruit. Delivers ample spice through the finish. Flirts with the exotic side, but there’s focus and cut here.—J.M.

Composed of 71% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 15 months in barrels, 60% new, the 2015 Petit Village reveals a deep garnet-purple color and gregarious notes of crushed blackberries, crème de cassis and preserved plums with touches of cedar chest, black olives, bay leaves and Marmite toast. The decadently rich, medium to full-bodied palate is superbly supported by a firm frame of grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and savory.

Château Petit-Village is located on the highest point of the gravel plateau located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation. The 10.5-hectare vineyard is in a single triangular-shaped plot. Combining age-old vine-growing traditions with modern facilities, optimizes the estate’s enormous potential without having to manipulate nature. Each and every action, from picking the grapes by hand to allowing the wine to rest in oak casks, is guided by the house’s set values.
