Dark and loamy, with fig bread and ganache out front, followed by steeped fig, pastis-soaked plum and Black Forest cake notes, all layered and backed by a long, licorice and graphite-filled finish. Offers more than enough fruit and acidity to soak up the abundant toast. For fans of the big style. Best from 2015 through 2030. 1,800 cases made. –JM

Elegant loamy soil notes intermixed with sweet cherries as well as hints of underbrush, mocha and mulberry jump from the glass of this pure, medium to full-bodied, dense wine, which possesses good glycerin, flesh and richness. It should drink nicely for up to 15 years. Most of the wines in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable hit 14.5% natural alcohol in 2010, which was relatively normal for many Right Bank wines dominated by Merlot. Latour a Pomerol’s 2010 is a strong effort from this estate, which seems to be producing outstanding wines on a consistent basis, but nothing yet to remind readers of some of the most profound wines ever made in Bordeaux, the vintages of this estate from 1961, 1959, 1949, 1948 and 1947

Château Latour à Pomerol
Château Latour à Pomerol is another property that fits under the renowned JP Moueix family umbrella. While the ownership of the estate resides with a charitable foundation, the Fondation de Foyers de Charite de Chateauneuf de Galaure, Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix has acted as manager of the château for over 40 years. Along with the family’s other top Bordeaux châteaux, Latour à Pomerol has become one of the leading Pomerol vineyards. The 8-hectare vineyard is made up of two parcels: the first, Les Grandes Vignes, is situated close to the church of Pomerol; the second is located on the western side of the Pomerol Plateau. The charming cru, like many Right Bank wines, remained relatively unknown until the budding wine critic, Robert Parker wrote about it in the early 1990s. Today, Château Latour à Pomerol’s wines offer a more opulent expression of the appellation, producing supple, ripe and richly plummy Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends.
