Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. It is has been a decade since I last tasted the 1955 Château Latour-à-Pomerol. This one reaffirmed my affection for this vintage, even if it was not quite as glorious as ten years ago. It is drier on the nose than I recollect: red berries, damp earth and truffle, a cheeky touch of mint with time, although it has just lost some of its shine. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely structured, without the finesse or substance of the 1962 however, the acidity is perfectly judged and it gains more weight towards the finish. It is very typical of a Right Bank 1955: a little austere and correct, yet the focus and length is admirable. If you find any bottles, I would drink them sooner rather than later. <br/>

Château Latour à Pomerol
Château Latour à Pomerol is another property that fits under the renowned JP Moueix family umbrella. While the ownership of the estate resides with a charitable foundation, the Fondation de Foyers de Charite de Chateauneuf de Galaure, Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix has acted as manager of the château for over 40 years. Along with the family’s other top Bordeaux châteaux, Latour à Pomerol has become one of the leading Pomerol vineyards. The 8-hectare vineyard is made up of two parcels: the first, Les Grandes Vignes, is situated close to the church of Pomerol; the second is located on the western side of the Pomerol Plateau. The charming cru, like many Right Bank wines, remained relatively unknown until the budding wine critic, Robert Parker wrote about it in the early 1990s. Today, Château Latour à Pomerol’s wines offer a more opulent expression of the appellation, producing supple, ripe and richly plummy Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends.
