I am not surprised the 2000 Lafleur has garnered the magical three-digit score. From bottle, the wine boasts a dense plum/purple color in addition to a gorgeous nose of kirsch liqueur intermixed with hints of black truffles, raspberries, and minerals. The tannin is present, but seems to creep up only upon intense inspection. Lafleur is enormously endowed, rich, and full-bodied, with a tremendous chewiness and, at the same time, sensuality. Pure, massive, and rich, with exceptional levels of glycerin and fruit nearly concealing high levels of tannin, and a 60+ second finish, this is a remarkable achievement, and ... just maybe the finest Lafleur since the 1982. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2040+.

09: Violett-Purpur-Schwarz. Bewegender, erster Nasenkontakt, viel Maulbeeren, Mokka, dunkle Edelhölzer, Korinthen, Rauch, frische Veilchennoten die verspielt das Nasenbild parfümieren, ein Hauch Geraniol vom Cabernet Franc, getrocknete Himbeerenstauden und Sommertrüffel. Samtiges, sattes Extrakt, blaubeerige Konturen mit Heidelbeeren-Rahm-Cremenoten, perfekte Balance, extrem lang. Moderner Lafleur aber mit dem Best-of-the-Best-Effekt. A hand-crafted, exciting wine. Solid as rock. Bright aromas of violets, berries, cherries and lilacs. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and superbly refined, silky tannins. Long finish. This is a remake of the superb 1998. Much better than I found it in barrel. Best after 2013. ?JS
Producer
Château Lafleur
Consisting of a mere 4.5-hectares of vines, with more than half, surprisingly planted to Cabernet Franc, Château Lafleur may be one of the smaller Pomerol properties, but that does not change that is certainly one of the finest. Located on the gravel-rich Pomerol Plateau, neighboring the phenomenal châteaux, Pétrus and La Fleur-Pétrus, Lafleur regularly produces comparable high-quality wines. Since its creation in 1872, Château Lafleur has stayed in the same kin-line, today, the fifth generation is represented by the Guinaudeau family, that took over estate in the mid-1980s. This single-vineyard grower-producer, due to its rather large proportion of Cabernet Franc, creates considerably structured wines that have the ability to age gracefully for two decades or more. Lafleur is their consistently impressive Grand Vin that shows the house’s signature concentrated layers of dark fruits, minerals, and liquorice, complimented by the wines overall rich opulence.
