The 2014 La Cabanne has a very composed, quite detailed bouquet with black fruit, sous-bois, freshly rolled tobacco and a touch of incense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a keen thread of acidity, very well focused with satisfying mineralité and tension on the persistent aftertaste. What a succinct Pomerol from François Estager. It is deceptively approachable, but will age with style.<br/>
Producer
Château La Cabanne
Situated in the heart of Pomerol, Château La Cabanne was named after the tiny area of La Cabane where the property sits. Owned by the Estager family since 1952, their 9-hectare vineyard is found close to Trotanoy and Clinet and is planted to mostly Merlot with a bit of Cabernet Franc (6%). Today, Francois Estager is at helm – crafting well-balanced reds with unique bouquets of red fruit and cocoa. Using both traditional and modern methods in the vineyard and in the cellar, the resulting wines are round and velvety on the palate with soft, unaggressive tannins. After careful blending, during which only the best wines are kept aside for the Grand Vin, there leading red is one of the greatest wines in Pomerol. Château La Cabanne also produces a second wine, Domaine de Compostelle, from younger vines.
