Medium- to full-bodied and medium sweet, with aniseed and lemon peel flavors. Spice and white pepper comes out too. Needs time. Best after 2012. ?JS 86 Robert ParkerFat, monolithic, flabby, and too sweet, without enough acidity, this wine comes across as a somewhat disjointed fruit bomb with no nuances or complexity. Perhaps it is going through a difficult stage, but it didn?t show well among the other wines from the Barsac and Sauternes region. Producer Château Doisy-VédrinesThe Chevaliers de Védrines owned this estate for centuries and passed down their name. Included in the 1855 Classification, it was acquired by the present owners in the mid-19th century. Doisy-Védrines is located on the clay-limestone rise in Haut-Barsac. The soil is ploughed the traditional way and the grapes are picked by hand in several waves (up to 6 or 8). Fermentation and ageing take place in barrels (exclusively French oak). The combination of modern and traditional techniques gives Château Doisy-Védrines its trademark richness and finesse typical of the finest wines of Sauternes. Annual production amounts to 36,000 bottles. When young, the wine is well-balanced and very delicious, especially as an aperitif. Older vintages are a delight at the end of a meal.
