From cask, I had thought the 1992 Canon to be one of St.-Emilion's most successful wines. Like many 1992s, the wine's fragile fruit appears to have suffered from the fining and filtering that the Bordelais routinely do at bottling. The results offer a perplexingly ripe but hard, tough, sculptured wine that appears slightly eviscerated. The color is sound, the fruit and attack begin well, but there is not much depth or length - just tannin, alcohol, acidity, and wood. Is this wine closed, or merely empty and hollow? The dark ruby color is followed by a spicy bouquet of new oak, sweet cassis fruit, melon, and earth. The wine exhibits good depth, medium body, a supple texture, and a round, generous finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

93: Fassprobe (13/20): Keine neuen Barriquen für den 92er! Ich beanstandete das Muster und der Kellermeister von Canon brachte eigenhändig ein neues, welches wiederum Fragen aufwarf: Trotz grossem Potential fand ich unsaubere, fassige Noten. Der Wein selbst ist sehr laktisch und hat extrem wenig Säure. Das Potential reicht für 16/20 Punkte aus. Ein paar Tage später degustierte ich nochmals auf dem Château von verschiedenen Barriquen: Sehr tiefe Säure, viel dunkle, reife Frucht, laktisch. Der Wein ist zwar an sich sehr gut, doch irgendwie ist der Wurm drin. Deshalb will ich mich überhaupt auf keine Punktezahl festlegen. 95: An der Arrivage wiederum miserabel: Granat mit starkem Wasserrand. Unsauberes Bouquet. Im Gaumen leicht, belanglos und wiederum unsauber. Ich bin der Ansicht, dass die ganze Ernte hätte deklassiert werden müssen. vorbei
