What subtlety and elegance on the nose, with blackberry, flowers, spices and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, with very fine tannins and an elegant, refined finish. What a turnaround. Much better now.?'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. 16,250 cases made. ?JS

88 Robert Parker
An excellent dark ruby/purple-colored effort, the 1998 offers a classic scorched earth, smoky, black cherry, and currant-scented bouquet. Medium-bodied, with sweet tannin, well-integrated acidity, and excellent flavor as well as richness, it is a complex, textbook Graves. Anticipated maturity: now-2014.

Château La Louvière
Nestled in Bordeaux’s winemaking cradle, Château La Louvière can be found in Pessac-Léognan, just several kilometers from the city. Benefiting from a long vinous history of over seven centuries, the current château was built by Jean-Baptiste Mareilhac during the French Revolution. By 1965 the neoclassical château was purchased by André Lurton, who worked to restore the estate’s former glory. Terroir-based vineyard management, environmentally-friendly viticultural practices, and traditional winemaking methods coupled with the judicious use of modern techniques enable La Louvière to produce dry white and red wines of great character.
