I like the aromas of walnuts and blackberries with hints of coffee beans. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a delicious sweet berry aftertaste. Delicious now. But will improve with age in the bottle.
Producer
Castello di Bolgheri
Flying under-the-radar for so many years, Castello di Bolgheri is finally gaining some traction in the wine-world. Their large plot surrounds the castle and extends for over 130-hectares, with 53-hectares planted to Bordeaux varietals. The vineyards stand perpendicular to the sea, and profit from the cooling winds during the summer season. Inherited from Countess Franca Spalletti Trivelli, her son Federico Zileri Dal Verme now owns the winery. The estate produces two reds under enologist, Alessandro Dondi. A Bordeaux inspired blend called Castello di Bolgheri Superiore, and a second label, Varvàra, which is often a popular choice amongst the Tuscan locals.
