This is a benchmark wine in Sardinia. The 2013 Turriga flows from the bottle with sun-drenched generosity and plum-like ripeness. This celebrated blend is composed of 85% Cannonau, 5% Carignano, 5% Bovale and 5% Malvasia Nera. It ages in oak for up to two years. This vintage most certainly delivers the goods with intensity and a proud sense of exuberance. Those black fruit nuances are smooth, velvety and soft. Exotic spice, tobacco and leather reach just the right level without going overboard. The mouthfeel is broad and all encompassing.
Producer
Argiolas
A leading name in Italian wine, Argiolas is Sardinia’s quintessential estate, producing emblematic wines from native varietals. Founded in 1938, the late Antonio Argiolas was the first on the island to convert his property to modern viticulture, aiming for quality, instead of quantity. Today, his sons, Franco and Giuseppe, manage the now 250-hectares of vineyards. Planted to native Sardinian grapes, such as Cannonau and Bovale Sardo, the 5 separate plots of vineyards also consist of a couple Mediterranean varieties, like Carignan and Malvasia Nera. The winery produces both a classic line of wines - that are fresh and bottled under various DOCs, including Vermentino di Sardegna and Cannonau di Sardegna – as well as, a prestige selection of wines – aged in French barriques, labeled as the Isola del Nuraghi IGT, including Korem and several others.
