The 2010 Turriga is one of the best wines to come from Sardinia this year. This compelling blend of Cannonau (85%) with Carignano, Bovale and Malvasia Nera is especially focused and intense in 2010. The wine shows extreme balance with seamless integration of black fruit, spice, crushed stone and leather. Yet you also get a pinch of wild rusticity that grounds this wine in a sense of place. Allow Turriga a few more years of cellar aging. Argiolas is a leading name in Italian wine. Owned by Franco and Giuseppe Argiolas, the estate wines bare the timeless marks of consulting enologist Giacomo Tachis who set the winemaking tone here many years ago. Argiolas continues to make some of Sardinia's best wines.

A finely tuned red, with supple tannins set against a core of sappy black currant, dark berry, herb and spice flavors, while a racy streak of minerality runs through the finish. Elegant. Cannonau with Carignano, Bovale Sardo and Malvasia Nera. Drink now through 2025. 4,150 cases made. –AN

Argiolas
A leading name in Italian wine, Argiolas is Sardinia’s quintessential estate, producing emblematic wines from native varietals. Founded in 1938, the late Antonio Argiolas was the first on the island to convert his property to modern viticulture, aiming for quality, instead of quantity. Today, his sons, Franco and Giuseppe, manage the now 250-hectares of vineyards. Planted to native Sardinian grapes, such as Cannonau and Bovale Sardo, the 5 separate plots of vineyards also consist of a couple Mediterranean varieties, like Carignan and Malvasia Nera. The winery produces both a classic line of wines - that are fresh and bottled under various DOCs, including Vermentino di Sardegna and Cannonau di Sardegna – as well as, a prestige selection of wines – aged in French barriques, labeled as the Isola del Nuraghi IGT, including Korem and several others.
