The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino comes across as lush and concentrated with bold fruit tones that wrap smoothly over the palate. The wine is well-balanced and really doesn't show overt signs of the hot 2009 vintage. In fact, the bright crispness, backed by sharp aromas of chopped mint and blue flower, show the quality of fruit that comes from this historic estates from one of the southern-most and warmest points of the appellation. This is a beautiful effort that will award those who wait a bit longer. Drink: 2017-2025.

A rich, fruity style, offering cherry, briar and tobacco notes, backed by dusty tannins. Open and bright, with fine length. Should be excellent with steak. Best from 2016 through 2025. 7,998 cases made. –BS

Argiano S.p.A. Società Agricola
Agricola Punica was founded in 2002, as a joint venture between Italy’s most elite winemakers and consultants. The list of all-star players includes, oenologist Sebastiano Rosa, Sardinian winery Cantina di Santadi, Tenuta San Guido under the leadership of Marchese Nicoló Incisa della Rocchetta, Santadi’s President Antonello Pilloni, and the iconic Tuscan consulting enologist, Giacomo Tachis. Fascinated by the idyllic connection of Sardina’s terroir and the Carignano grape, this extraordinary team decided to build Agricola Punica in the southwestern region of the island, caleed Sulcis Meridionale. The 150-hectare estate is divided among two vineyard sites, Barrua and Narcao. Though the land sits within the DOC of Carignano del Sulcis walls, the wines are labeled under the IGT of Isola dei Nuraghi. Today, the winery produces two stand-out wines based on the Carignano variety, the Barrua and the Montessu.
