An intense, dense and beautiful red with hints of dried rosemary and berries as well as peppery meat undertones. Full and very soft with velvety tannins and a long finish. One of the softest and most savory Barruas made yet. Mostly carignan, about 10% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot. Drink or hold.
Producer
Agricola Punica
Agricola Punica was founded in 2002, as a joint venture between Italy’s most elite winemakers and consultants. The list of all-star players includes, oenologist Sebastiano Rosa, Sardinian winery Cantina di Santadi, Tenuta San Guido under the leadership of Marchese Nicoló Incisa della Rocchetta, Santadi’s President Antonello Pilloni, and the iconic Tuscan consulting enologist, Giacomo Tachis. Fascinated by the idyllic connection of Sardina’s terroir and the Carignano grape, this extraordinary team decided to build Agricola Punica in the southwestern region of the island, caleed Sulcis Meridionale. The 150-hectare estate is divided among two vineyard sites, Barrua and Narcao. Though the land sits within the DOC of Carignano del Sulcis walls, the wines are labeled under the IGT of Isola dei Nuraghi. Today, the winery produces two stand-out wines based on the Carignano variety, the Barrua and the Montessu.
