Sumptuous notes of mulberries, spring flowers, kirsch, black currant liqueur, graphite and spice appear more projected and evolved than in most barrel samples of La Mondotte. Extravagantly rich, full-bodied and multidimensional with soft tannin and low acidity, this is a precocious, gorgeously proportioned effort that should be drinkable in 4-5 years. It will last for two decades.
This is another spectacular performance from consultant Stephane Derenoncourt and proprietor Stephan von Neipperg. From a 12-acre estate situated high on the clay and limestone plateau above Pavie Decesse, La Mondotte undeniably has one of the most outrageously fine vineyard parcels in all of St.-Emilion. The final blend of the 2012 was 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc that tips the scales at 14% natural alcohol. Yields were a minuscule 20 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place between October 9-18.
A small, 5-acre jewel of an estate planted with 90% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, this property, which sits next to La Mondotte, hit 14% natural alcohol (just below the 14.3% achieved by their 2010).

This is very intense with great depth of fruit and length. Full body, with super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. The minerality and citrusy acidity gives the wine wonderful tension and length.

Intensives Bouquet, fein pfeffrig, rote Kirschen und ein Hauch Grenadine darunter zeigend, ergänzt durch feine Flieder- und Cassisnoten. Im Gaumen kann man die Tannin-Säurestruktur eigentlich bei allen Neipperg-Weinen heuer gleich beschreiben, ausser; dass dieser noch mehr Tannine und noch mehr Säure zu haben scheint, zusammen mit der ganz speziellen Mineralik kumulieren sich diese halt und somit wirkt diese La Mondotte sehr asketisch und hat fast kapselige Konturen in der Adstringenz. So gerne ich diesen Wein sehr schnell lobe, so kritisch bin (momentan noch?) ich dieses Jahr aufgrund von diesem Musters, welches ich direkt auf Canon-La-Gaffeière ins Glas bekam. Das wird ein harter Lauf! warten (2019 - 2042)
