95 Vinous
The 2019 Batailley has an intense bouquet of blackberry, graphite and light tobacco scents, the latter less pronounced than out of barrel. This feels supremely well-defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and pure black fruit laced with cracked black pepper and graphite, leading to a complex and quite prolonged finish. One of the best Batailleys, maybe the best, in recent years, and a strong follow-up to their splendid 2018. Highly recommended and still one of the best values in Pauillac.
95 James Suckling
This is a fine-tannined and racy young wine with blackberry, blackcurrant and light mint aromas that follow through to a full to medium body with long, polished tannins and a persistent finish. A classic and classy young wine. 74% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Drink after 2025.

Delivers a nice gush of warmed plum and blackberry preserve flavors, enlivened with hints of anise, apple wood and dark tobacco. Features a hint of sweet bay leaf through the finish, which has a lush feel despite a buried cast iron note. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2038. 25,000 cases made. — JM
