The 2010 La Nieta is a 4,000-bottle cuvee of pure Tempranillo sourced from a single vineyard in Paganos (Laguardia). The first vintage of this wine was 2004. The nose starts with a beautiful reductive note (yes, that’s possible!) underneath which the violets, blueberries and cherries explode with a little bit of time, complemented by delicate spicy and earthy aromas. The palate shows silky, velvety tannins, a weight of fruit that coats your mouth and a pungent, clean acidity. Delicate, subtle, very fine and complex with a Burgundian character, extremely elegant. A world class wine! Drink 2014-2030.

Viñedos de Páganos
Found just on the edge of the Sierra de Cantabria, the medieval village of Laguardia is home to the Viñedos de Páganos estate. A historically valued plot of land, farmers since the Neolithic times have appreciated its unique climate and geological conditions. Today, the Eguren family owns this small bodega. In the Rioja Alvaesa sub-region, the family produces two single-vineyard reds, El Puntido and La Nieta, as well as another red called Gran Reserva El Puntido. Hand-picked and de-stemmed, La Nieta is a pure Tempranillo that has been well-received by critics year after year. Fermentation takes place in small French oak casks, and the resulting wines are delicate and complex. Some even display Burgundian characteristics and come together as extremely elegant examples of Rioja. The ultimate fusion of tradition and modernity, Viñedos de Páganos crafts top-notch artisanal Rioja Alvaesa reds.
