Producer
Villa Matilde
For over half a century, Villa Matilde has been a first-class wine producer, offering superior examples of Campania. Made up of three distinct wine estates, Tenute di San Castrese e Parco Nuovo, Tenute di Altavilla, and Rocca dei Leoni, Villa Matilde produces wines from upper Caseta, the Sannio near Benevento and Irpinia. Founded in the 1960s, Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer with a passion for ancient wines, set out cultivate this historical wine-producing region. The connection between local culture and its age-old winemaking traditions represents the history and philosophy followed by Villa Matilde. With the assistance of local farmers and professors of Crop Sciences, Avallone was able to identify the grapes varieties used in Roman times, and thus replanted several plots. Today, the estate is led by his children, Francesco Paolo, Maria Ida, and Salvatore, who have tenaciously devoted themselves to their father’s vision and winemaking project.
