A trademark nose with plenty of savory elements in the wood; nutty pinot noir realm, attractive red-fruited freshness, plus some grilled nuts too. The palate has a bold heart of gently spicy, peppery red fruit flavor delivered confidently right throughout. Drink now.
Producer
Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin
Widely recognized by its orange-yellow label, Veuve Clicquot is yet another Champagne giant owned by the high-quality goods empire, LVMH. Founded in 1722 by Philippe Clicquot, the Reims estate became known as Veuve Clicquot years later, taking the name of Philippe’s son’s wife, who took charge upon his premature death in 1805. She was the first woman in Champagne to run a house herself. The winery was also later credited as the first house to produce a rosé Champagne in 1775. By adding red wine to their blends, rosé Champagne was born and in hindsight, this was a technique that was way ahead of their competition. Therefore, this is a very historic house that has continued to produce top-quality wines. Today, their wines even hold the Royal Warrant of Queen Elizabeth II. Veuve Clicquot crafts several strong and complex Champagnes, of their top cuvées, La Grande Dame and La Grande Dame Rosé are both rich blends of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their normal Yellow Label, Carte Jaune has consistently shown great quality over the years as well.
