Wonderful aromas of sweet tobacco, currant and chocolate powder follow through to a full body with integrated, velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Lots of lead-pencil and spice undertones. Texture is exquisite. Drink or hold.
Producer
Tenuta San Leonardo
Idyllically situated in Vallagrina, close to the city of Trento, Tenuta San Leonardo benefits from a temperate climate and cool winds. This southern Trentino property has been cultivating grapes for centuries. As one of Italy’s leading Bordeaux-style producers, the winery has gained quite a high esteem from wine connoisseurs and critics alike. The estate has remained under the Guerrieri Gonzaga family’s ownership since the mid-18th century. Today, the 300-hectare plot devotes 20-hectares to vineyards and focusing on a small production of red wines. Planted to international varietals: mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, but also, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the vines have thrived year after year amongst Trentino’s microclimates. The combination of outstanding terroir, grape-quality and the people behind San Leonardo, have produced concentrated wines with an extraordinary finesse that can easily compete with a list of Bordeaux’s finest blends.
