Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot. Sattes Purpur. Intensives Bouquet; feine Erd-Blutnoten, fleischiger Ansatz, sehr tiefgründig. 19/20 trinken

The flagship estate wine, 2010 Monteverro, is absolutely stunning. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Vineyards are located on a soft incline at the foot of Capalbio facing the glimmering Tyrrhenian Sea. The enormity of this wine cannot be exaggerated: Dark fruit, chocolate and spice make for a rich and opulent first impression. The excellence of the 2010 vintage is on full display thanks to the integrity of the fruit, the supple richness of the mouthfeel and the tangy sweetness of the finish. Monteverro is a relatively new estate that shows enormous promise. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. We’ve all heard the story before: Wealthy businessman falls in love with fine wine and sets out to make an icon wine of his own. Founded by German-born Swiss entrepreneur Georg Weber, Monteverro is the kind of estate you’d expect to find in Napa Valley where big money regularly rolls into town. Michel Rolland is a consultant and the underground barrel room is colossal, both in terms of investment and aspiration. Here’s the catch: Mr. Weber did not choose Napa. Instead, he settled on the trendy beach town of Capalbio in southern Tuscany that is known for many things, but not wine. Showing a level of moxie so high it touches peaks of brilliance and insanity, he planted his winemaking flag here. Given the excellent results, I can only say “chapeau.”

Marked by vanilla and other spices, this big, flamboyant red shows sweet black cherry, black currant, spice and mineral flavors. The rich texture and sweet fruit offset the beefy tannins. Fine length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2023. 1,225 cases made. –BS

Tenuta Monteverro
Characterized by its maritime-climate and ideal location, Monteverro lies along the breathtaking hills of southern Maremma. The winery was founded by German-born Swiss entrepreneur, Georg Weber in the early 2000s. He established the estate with aims to craft his very own first-class Premier Grand Cru Tuscan wine. The first vines were planted in 2004, just outside of the Capalbio village, however, today, the property unfolds over 50-hectares – 27 of which are vineyards. The Weber family strives for perfection in every step they take. From the vines, to the winery, to hiring world-renowned consultant Michel Rolland, no expense was spared in the construction of this estate. Today, Monteverro is regarded as one of Italy’s leading Super-Tuscan producers. Their eponymous wine is also their Premier Cru. With the same proportions of Bordeaux varietals as their second wine, Terra di Monteverro, Monteverro is a complex and structured red with 24 months ageing in 80% new French-oak barrels. The family produces a handful of others wines, following in the Monteverro spirit - the delicacies of the Maremma terroir are sure to sparkle in each bottle.
