The 2009 Il Pino di Biserno already shows promising signs of a happy evolution. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the wine is redolent of dried tobacco, black currant and rain-soaked earth. It delivers balanced power and concentration that drive a long, rich finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Tenuta di Biserno is the pride and joy of Lodovico Antinori, a man with a gifted talent for selecting the best sites for growing vines along the rugged coast of Tuscany. After selling Tenuta dell’Ornellaia years ago, Lodovico invested much of his energy and passion here.

This is suave, with polished tannins and a rich texture framing black cherry, plum and chocolate notes, showing good grip on the long finish. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2018. 6,000 cases made. –BS

Tenuta di Biserno
Lodovico Antinori is the brilliant force behind these two estates, Tenuta di Biserno and Campo di Sasso. The wines coming from these properties have been built on Lodovico’s ability to foresee a terroir’s true potential. Focus and determination has led to the production of his unrivaled wines. Amongst the sloping hills of Bibbona, Tenuta di Biserno lies in Alta Maremma, bordering the historic village of Bolgheri. The nearly 50-hectare estate was discovered in 1995 when Lodovico was searching to expand the already notable Ornellaia property. Due to its distinctive terroir, much hillier and stonier than Ornellaia, Lodovico declared this plot be used for its very own project. Joining forces with brother, Marchese Piero Antinori and landowner Umberto Mannoni – the Biserno estate came to life. Their flagship, eponymously labeled Biserno is a thoughtful blend of Cabernet Franc with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. While the property also produces a second wine, Il Pino di Biserno and a super cuvée named after Lodovico himself, which is made from an individual plot of vines ensuring its unique character and personality.
