An elegant red, featuring sweet cherry, black currant, licorice, leather and tobacco flavors. The tannins are firm, but the long aftertaste evokes spice and tobacco. Best from 2016 through 2030. 800 cases imported.

The 2010 Bolgheri Rosso Villa Donoratico (45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc with Merlot and Petit Verdot) is a lean and straightforward expression with medium persistency and heft. It embodies a clean, unpretentious style with simple aromas of red fruit, cherry and light spice. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2019. Tenuta Argentiera is a fascinating property that is only at the beginning of what I hope will be a long and successful road ahead. Founded in 1999 in partnership with Piero Antinori, the 72 hectares of vines are just entering their prime production years. As a result, the property has started to release some ambitious new mono-varietal wines. A pure expression of Merlot, the first vintage of Giorgio Bartholomaus was released in 2009 in honor of proprietor Corrado Fratini’s grandchild. A second wine, the 100% 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Opheliah Maria (dedicated to Corrado’s latest grandchild) will see its debut later in the year.

Tenuta Argentiera
From the plains to the Tuscan hills, Tenuta Argentiera stretches across the Alta Maremma coast located about 100-kilometers south-west of Italy’s beloved city, Florence. Founded originally in 1999, through a partnership with neighboring estate owner, Antinori, the property is now under sole-ownership of the Fratini brothers, Corrado and Marcello. Seventy-five of the estate’s 500-hectares are planted to typical Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Straddling the DOC Bolgheri and IGT Toscana appellations, the tenuta’s first vintage was released in 2003. Today, their wines continue to characteristically mirror Argentiera’s special piece of Maremma terroir. The DOC Bolgheri Superiore flagship, Argentiera is a rich red blend made from the property’s most tended to grapes, with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon backbone the wine is ripe and silky. They also produce two other Bolgheri DOCs, Villa Donaratico and Poggio ai Ginepri, as well as an impressive pure Merlot, Bartholomäus.
