The 2002 Millesime Brut is a beautiful, poised wine that artfully balances fruit and structure. The fruit reveals slightly honeyed overtones, along with suggestions of smoke and minerals that add further complexity. This medium-bodied Champagne closes on a strong note with a long, clean finish. The blend is equal parts Pinot Noir (Montagne de Reims, Vallee de la Marne) and Chardonnay (Cote des Blancs), all from grand cru villages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012. This is Lot: L7210MZ01600 June 14, 2007.
Producer
Taittinger Champagne
Previously founded under a different name in 1734, the Taittinger estate has grown steadily since Pierre Taittinger bought the formerly known Château de la Marquetterie in 1932. As one of the greatest French families, the Champagne house has remained under the Taittinger family since. The 300-hectare property planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, stretches over 34 different crus. Planted amongst the best in the Champagne appellation, including the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims areas. Today, Taittinger is a rather large house, they consistently produce the impressive Brut Réserve year after year. Their prestige cuvée, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is the most famous, produced in only the very best years, it is also matched by an equally rare Rosé. In addition to their exquisite vintage wines, the Prelude is a non-vintage remarkable blend made solely from Grand Cru grapes, while the low-dosage Nocturne Sec is similarly thrilling.
