Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select 1995 75cl

Critics scores
99 By Robert Parker
The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select possesses lots of fatness in the mid-palate. There is plenty of tannin in this full-bodied, rich effort. It is remarkable how the finest California Cabernets combine extraordinary power and richness with balance and elegance. A stupendous wine, it is worth a special effort to obtain. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2030.

Shafer Vineyards
Situated in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District, Shafer Vineyards has become one of the leading wineries in California. Established in the 1970s by former Chicago publishing executive, John Shafer, purchased this 85-hectare property along the Silverado Trail. After years of hard work in the vineyards, John and his son, Doug released their first Shafer Vineyards wine in 1978. This father and son duo, along with their brilliant winemaker, Elias Fernandez, built quite a reputation for this Napa Valley estate, often being named as one of the best wineries in the world. Their vineyards are sustainably farmed and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot and Syrah. The family produces five wines, including their pure Cabernet Sauvignon – Hillside Select – a classic and powerful red; their highly acclaimed One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon blend; and their Syrah-based wine – Relentless. Robert Parker describes the winery perfectly, stating: “One of Napa’s most prominent and respected wineries, Shafer is a poster boy for remarkable and consistent quality across the board. This is a winery that never seems to disappoint.”
