Vinified in large oak, the 2013 Im Weingebirge Grüner Veltliner Baumpresse is beautifully clear, refined and elegant on the deep, spicy, fruit-intense and complex nose. It's unique in style and was pressed with the ancient basket press of the domain. The wine ferments spontaneously but picky and is racked and sulfured already in January of the following year to be aged for years on the fine lees. Rich and intense on the palate, it has ripe and concentrated fruit combined with fine tannins and a unique touch of oxidative style. This is a traditional class that is reminiscent of old school Riojas but is richer, more fruit-intense and maybe also mightier. In any case, it's an outstanding and singular Austrian wine, I would say a cultural heritage such as the Coulée de Serrant. Bottled in 2018. 12.5% alcohol. Tasted at the domaine in June 2021.
