Sangiovese. Dunkles, dichtes Purpur. 19/20 trinken – 2025

The 2011 Cepparello is a big wine that moves over the palate with authority and determination. It reveals thick layers of tobacco, spice, red cherry, grilled herb and pretty ashy-mineral accents. This 100% Sangiovese also imparts a sense of austerity that is especially evident in the tight, but polished tannins. Cepparello needs another five years of bottle aging.

Well-marked by oak, black cherry, blackberry, tobacco and iron flavors, this is rich and firm, picking up black tea and smoke notes on the long finish. Shows latent power. Sangiovese. Best from 2016 through 2025. 2,600 cases made.
Producer
Isole e Olena
Located on the slopes outside of San Gimiganano, the inspiring Isole e Olena estate can be recognized as one of Tuscany’s rising star. The property was initially formed by the coupling of two farms, Isole and Olena that were purchased by the Piedmontese De Marchi family in the 1950s. The stunning beauty of the tiny twin hamlets, straddling each side of this historic estate is absolutely wondrous. Current proprietor, Paolo De Marchi has made a lasting impression on the winery. As a talented enologist himself, his inventive opinions have transformed Isole e Olena into the dynamic producer that we know today. His enthusiastic and engaging personality defines their landmark set of wines, from his Chianti Classico to his flagship, Cepparello. Initially introduced in 1980, this 100% Sangiovese Grand Vin set new standards in Italy, pioneering the pure Sangiovese movement. Crafted from a selection of the estate’s best fruit, the wine is aged in French oak barrels showing enormous finesse.
