Very ripe, bright, black fruits and tar aromas pour from the glass. Big and juicy, but the tannins are stronger than the sweet stuff. Long, clean finish and a lot of potential.
Producer
Finca Villacreces
In the middle of Ribera del Duero’s Golden Mile, the unique landscape of vineyards, pine forests and the Duero River surround the beautiful Finca Villacreces estate. With a rather long history, today, the property is in the hands of Gonzalo and Lalo Antón, owner of two other bodegas, Izadi in Rioja and Vetus in Toro. After heavily investing in the vineyard and winery, Villacreces was relaunched in 2007. Pruno is a blend of mostly Tempranillo and smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it is described as the best Spanish wine under twenty dollars, according to Robert Parker. Along with this, they produce two other wines, the flagship, Finca Villacreces and the most unique, Nebro which is made from low-yielding, old vine Tempranillo. The 64-hectare estate is also neighbors with the famous Vega Sicilia, nevertheless Villacreces creates some of the most sought-after fine, but reasonably priced Spanish wines.
