The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Coucherias has a pretty, more feminine bouquet than the Clos du Dessus des Marconnets, with perfumed raspberry and wild berry scents suffused with cold stone notes. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit. This has more depth and body than the Clos du Dessus des Marconnets with a lively, sappy finish. Enjoy this over the next two or three years.
Producer
Domaine Pierre Labet (Château de la Tour)
Domaine Pierre Labet is the other property of Château de la Tour de Vougeot and has been in the Labet family for many years. The Labets have been long-term residents of Beaune, residing in the region for over 500 years. Like at Château de la Tour, François Labet is currently at the helm (and has been since 1984) and the wines are produced as identically as they can be as Château de la Tour's - the major difference being that they are located outside of Vougeot in the Côte de Beaune and as north as Gevrey-Chambertin. Organically grown, the estate practices whole cluster fermentation to produce their reds. In addition to their reds which consist of Bourgogne Rouge, Beaune du Dessus Marconnets, Beaune 1er Cru Coucherais and Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, the domaine also produces multiple whites, including Savigny 1er Cru Les Vergelesses (which François calls his "baby Charlie" as it lies adjacent to Corton-Charlemagne) and Meursault Tillets.
