Domaine Didier Dagueneau
Domaine Didier Dagueneau is the most iconoclastic producer in France’s central Loire Valley and one of the greatest in the country. The late Didier Dagueneau was recognized for many years as the “wild man of Pouilly”, and for many reasons other than is hirsute appearance. His unparalleled personality went hand in hand with his life’s work as the appellation’s finest wine-maker. While, Dagueneau had several competitors in Sancerre, he emerged as the benchmark Loire producer, represented by his superb, multifaceted Sauvignon Blancs that each have a great vocation for aging. Today, his children, specifically his son Louis-Benjamin continues his mission through meticulous viticultural and vinification practices. Through low-yielding methods and peak maturity harvesting, with several passes through the vines, the grapes are delicately handled - keeping cellar conduct to an absolute minimum. These approaches have remained the key to Dagueneau’s success. The wines are layered by a mix of green fruits and minerals, making an intense and very complex white. The unsurpassable structure of each bottle will be amply rewarded with six or more years’ patience.
