The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle confirms all the promise it showed from barrel and ranks among the highlights of this year's collection chez Dugat-Py. Bursting with aromas of cassis, blackberries, smoked meats, truffles and loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety but incisive, simultaneously impressively concentrated and stimulatingly vibrant, concluding with a long and sapid finish. This is the finest Petite Chapelle that I can remember tasting at this address. <br/>
Producer
Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py
Domaine Dugat-Py is not only one of the oldest established producers in Gevrey-Chambertin, but also considered one of the best. The current Dugat family represents the thirteenth generation that has produced wine, their ancestors had started in the beginning of the 17th century. The domaine was created in 1923, when Fernand Dugat married Jeanne Bolnot. The name changed to Dugat-Py in 1994, when Bernard Dugat added his wife's maiden name, carrying forward a Burgundian tradition. Reminiscent of a small cathedral, their dramatic ageing cellar hails from the 12th century and was used to store wine for the Abbey of Saint-Bénigne in Dijon. It is one of the most renowned cellars in the entire Côte. They produce a variety of top appellations, including Le Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux. Their wine style tends to be extroverted, deeply colored and with notable concentration. They are spiced with pronounced new French oak and sweet fruit cores. Despite their full-on nature, they are also notably well sculpted and long ageing.
