The Château Sociando-Mallet 2014 has an outstanding nose: very intense blackberry and raspberry fruit, fine delineation and tension, a real humdinger! The palate is fresh and vibrant with fine tannin, plenty of grainy red berry fruit mixed with cedar and bay leaf, with great conviction on the finish. This is a great Sociando Mallet from Jean Gartreau - expect it to land at the top of that banded score.

Fresh, with good cut to the plum and black currant fruit, showing extra tobacco and iron notes on the finish. Has a good shot of toast, but enough fruit and minerality to soak that up. Rock-solid.—J.M.

55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc. Tiefes Purpur, satt in der Mitte, Granatschimmer am Rand. Intensives Cabernet- Sauvignon-Bouquet, mittlerer Druck, floraler Schimmer, sehr ansprechend. Im Gaumen mit feinen Muskeln, schwarzer Pfeffer im Extrakt, aromatisches Finale. Gesellt sich zu den sehr guten, aber nicht ganz grossen Sociando's. 2019 – 2036

Château Sociando Mallet

Château Sociando Mallet is without a doubt the most impressive estate in the Haut-Medoc region. Nestled in the village of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, it has been producing quality Cru Bourgeois for decades. Jean Gautreau, a native of the Médoc and a former wine merchant, discovered the property by chance in 1969 when he was looking for a property for a Belgian client. It was love at first sight, and he bought the estate with its 5 hectares of vines and its dilapidated buildings. Jean Gautreau completely transformed the property, expanding the vineyard, renovating the buildings and even building a brand new winery. His efforts have resulted in an impressive estate, incorporating 85 hectares of vineyards. Sociando-Mallet today stands as a monumental blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Grand Vin, with a certain aging potential, displays a typical style of wines meant for aging, with soft and youthful tannins that make it an unforgettable red.
