Very floral and vivid on the nose with lovely ripe cabernet character that showcases currants and berries. Full body, tight and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Love the balance and beauty.
Producer
Château Pibran
Château Pibran was named after Paul Pibran Billa, its owner during the mid-20th century. In 1987, it was sold to the AXA Insurance Group who currently owns Pichon Baron in Pauillac, Suduiraut in Sauternes, Petit-Village in Pomerol as well as Quinta do Noval in the Douro Valley and Domaine de l'Arlot in Burgundy. At the time of its purchase, Jean-Michel Cazes (of Lynch Bages) ran AXA's wine estates. He was succeeded by Christian Seely in 2000, who remains firmly in place today. The 17-hectare estate is well-placed and a stone's throw from Mouton Rothschild and Pontet-Canet. Their soil is mostly gravel and is planted to a high percentage of Merlot (54%) followed by Cabernet Sauvignon (45%) and Petit Verdot (1%). They may have the largest amount of Merlot planted on the Left Bank. With the winemaking know-how of Pichon Baron and high quality terroir, Pibran can offer excellent value for money.
