53 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot, 7 % Petit Verdot. 32 Hl/ha. Tiefes Purpur-Rubin mit violettem Rand. Kompaktes, dichtes Beerenbouquet, ein Hauch Cassis darin, dunkle Hölzer, Tabak, Teer und Trüffel, sehr tiefgründig, verschlossen. Fester, enorm dichter Gaumen, viel Fleisch, blau bis mehrheitlich schwarzbeerig, getrocknete Heidelbeeren, Brombeeren, intensive, aber genial verteilte Adstringenz, gebündeltes, extrem langes Finale. Wo ist dieser Palmer einzureihen? Es gibt praktisch keine Vergleiche, weil sonst in derart grossen Jahren, der Wein im Verhältnis zu den Tanninen parallel fetter wurde, was sich hier eher in Fleisch und Kraft zeigt. Dies vielleicht deshalb weil die hochgradigen Merlots eine Struktur aufwiesen, die man sonst nur vom Cabernet kennt. dieser sicherlich legendäre, fast schon monströse Palmer ist Nichts für Ungeduldige! 09: Um Mitternacht nebem dem Mouton 2002 in Javea bei Richi und René getrunken. Selten war ein Palmer so blaubeerig und komplex. 10 Jahre warten lohnt sich. (20/20). 11: Geniales Holunderbouquet mit schwarzer Johannisbeere vermischt, dunkle Edelhölzer, eine zarte, passende Süsse die mitschwingt. Feiner Gaumen, seidige Tannine, eingebundene Säure und somit sehr elegant und auch wunderbar balanciert. Dieser geniale Rotwein versprüht nur so Eleganz. Grosses Bordeaux-Kino. warten (2015 - 2040)

Its bigger sister, the 2005 Château Palmer (53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot), is one of the great efforts of this superlative vintage. Floral notes mixed with blackberry, cassis, plum, licorice and spring flowers soar from the glass of this dense ruby/purple wine. It is medium to full-bodied, surprisingly opulent (it has a big percentage of Merlot), long, multi-dimensional and textured. This wonderfully pure, stunning wine once again performs as a first-growth. It should drink well for the next 20-25 years

Dark in color, with intense aromas of crushed berry, toasty oak and hints of raisin, turning to fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with a big, juicy, velvety texture and a long aftertaste of coffee, coconut and berry. This is powerful and muscular for Palmer. Best after 2012. ?JS

Among the mythic wines of the Margaux Appellation, Château Palmer has always stood apart, as instantly recognisable for its midnight blue label as for its inimitable bouquet, an uncommon blend of power and delicacy. It’s a strength of character drawn from a fabled terroir, and from an ensemble of vibrant personalities who have forged the estate’s identity through history. Emerging in the 17th century, the estate only became Château Palmer in 1814, when it was acquired by Charles Palmer, a dashing British Major General who instilled his namesake with enough éclat and glamour to see it become renowned throughout London’s aristocratic circles. In 1853, the Pereire brothers, among the preeminent financiers of Napoleon III’s France, brought the rigour and vision needed for Château Palmer to be ranked among the most prestigious classified growths of the 1855 classification. In 1938, a consortium of four leading families in the Bordeaux wine trade acquired the estate, heralding an era of momentous vintages and deep-rooted stability – indeed, Palmer is still owned by the descendants of two of these families:Mähler-Besse and Sichel.
