Bravo! 18/20 2024 – 2050

Fragrant blackberries married to moderate vanilla oak on the nose. Then cue an elegant, moderately tannic palate with some real sophistication. What a seductive wine. I love the long clean, dry and mineral finish that makes you sure this has a couple of decades ahead of it, even if it drinks well now.

Lush and suave, with dark fig and blackberry fruit that has melded beautifully with dark tea and light charcoal notes. Offers a warm, velvety finish.—J.M.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Marquis de Terme offers up cassis, black cherries and plums on the nose with touches of garrigue, lavender and Provence herbs. The medium-bodied palate offers great fruit concentration with savory accents and ripe, grainy tannins plus plenty of freshness, finishing earthy.

Château Marquis de Terme
In December of 1762, Élisabeth de Ledoux d’Emplet, great niece of Pierre des Mesures de Rauzan, married a Gascon gentleman, François de Péguilhan de Larboust, otherwise known as Marquis de Terme, who gave his name to an estate consisting of several vineyard plots that were part of his wife's dowry. The property went through rough times in the 19th century and had several owners. It was acquired in 1935 by Pierre Sénéclauze, father of the present owners. The vineyard is located on gravelly rises in the communes of Margaux and Cantenac. Plot-by-plot management is not only conducive to quality, but is also ecologically-friendly. The grapes are picked entirely by hand, sorted in the vineyard and a second time – even more meticulously – in the cellar before destemming and putting into vat. Château Marquis de Terme is aged in oak barrels from the finest French forests. Once bottled, it ages well for many years.
