5eme Grand Cru Classé | Pauillac | Bordeaux | France
Producer
Château Lynch-Moussas
Lynch-Moussas was originally part of a Pauillac estate owned by Count Lynch in the 18th century. Which was later divided into two separate entities, Lynch-Bages and Lynch-Moussas. Consisting of more than two hundred hectares of woods, grounds and vines, Lynch-Moussas was included in the 1855 Classification. Purchased by Jean Castéja in 1919 (at a time when he was co-owner of Duhart-Milon), Lynch-Moussas was passed down to Émile Castéja and his family in 1970. This marked the beginning of an important new phase in the château's history. The vineyard was restructured, the cellars and vat room rebuilt, and winemaking modernized. Meticulous care is taken of the vines in order to express the multi-faceted terroir: bud pruning, leaf thinning, green harvesting and picking by hand produce grapes of optimum quality. In 2001, Émile and Philippe Castéja created a second wine, Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas, which is the name of plots located on the butte overlooking the château. Lynch-Moussas is much-appreciated today for its deep, dark color, red fruit bouquet, round, ripe tannin, and overtones of blackcurrant typical of the finest wines of Pauillac. It is also full-bodied, with a beautiful, long aftertaste.
