The 2011 Le Gay was tasted from two bottles as the first was corked. The second has a ripe mulberry nose, a little Grenache-like, clean and well defined if just missing a little energy. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite tight and conservative, good acidity but very linear and missing some charm on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Château Le Gay
The wines of Château Le Gay attract the most demanding of wine-lovers. Currently owned by the Péré-Vergé family, this top Pomerol estate owes its inviting reputation to the Robin sisters. Marie and Thérèse owned Château Le Gay for over sixty years and during this time the estate became widely respected. The two women are famously remembered by their father’s motto “Quality before quantity”. Following in the charming sisters’ lead, Catherine Péré-Vergé purchased the property in 2002, immediately enlarging the vineyards to 10-hectares. Just ten years later, Catherine unfortunately passed away, leaving the estate in the hands of her four children, with her son, Henri Parent acting as managing director. Today, Château Le Gay tends towards modernization, with brand new winemaking facilities and sustainable viticulture practices. Manoir de Gay is their contemporary second wine, while the Grand Vin, Le Gay is opulent, rich with berry fruit, and slightly oaked. Six to seven years’ patience will unveil the wine’s inspiring cedary complexity and finely crafted structure.
